NASCAR looking to fill four sponsor categories: NASCAR will go into 2009 with openings in at least four categories – rental car, quick-service restaurant, home improvement store and digital photography – while five other sponsors renewed their official status deals. The biggest defection comes from Home Depot, which has spent the last 10 years as NASCAR’s official home improvement warehouse.

Terry Angstadt, president of the Indy Racing League’s commercial division, said the sanctioning body will review venues to fill the void on the 2009 IndyCar Series schedule after officials for the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix announced that the event will not be held because of difficult economic conditions.

For Jeff Gordon: A fifth Sprint Cup championship and his first in the Chase format. In the previous scoring system, Gordon would have six titles at this point, but he’s hungry to prove he can win the Chase before he retires. Gordon will turn 40 in August 2011, and based on his contribution to the sport — and to the world overall — there’s no one in the garage more deserving of success. Gordon won’t match Richard Petty’s record 200 wins, but he’s already granted more than 200 wishes to children battling life-threatening diseases under the auspices of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Logano Attempts First Runs at Daytona with ARCA Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 19, 2008) – Joey Logano is only 18 but is about to attempt a rare Daytona double.
Logano, who has never raced at Daytona International Speedway, will make his first two starts on Saturday, Feb. 7 when he races in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series season opener followed by Budweiser Shootout All-Star race.
On Friday, Logano, who will replace Tony Stewart in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Home Depot Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, kicked off a three-day ARCA RE/MAX Series test with close to 50 other cars at “The World Center of Racing” as he prepares to pull off the Saturday night doubleheader.
