SUPER PICKS FOR THE SUPER BOWL…ALMS Drivers Offer There Picks

January 31, 2009

Autocon’s Chris McMurry, like others in the Series paddock, are taking Arizona on Sunday in the Super Bowl…
With Super Bowl XLIII now only a day away, a few drivers from the American Le Mans Series paddock shared their opinions and predictions on the NFL’s biggest game of the season.

Johnny O’Connell, Corvette Racing
Corvette C6.R (GT1)
“I’m going with Arizona. I lived there six years working for the Bondurant School. You have to like (Kurt) Warner at quarterback. That’s a great good-guy story. Plus it’d be nice to see someone new win it.”

Chris McMurry, Autocon Motorsports
Lola B06/10-AER (LMP1)
(A business owner in the Phoenix area) “I’m pulling for the Cardinals. They’ve been in town here for 20 years, and anything that has been in your life for 20 years grows on you. It’s a universal thing here…the way people reacted to how they have been doing lately and how people were reacting to them previously. A lot of people were indifferent. You’ve been let down so many times. It really looked like at the end of the season that they would do what they do every year – let you down. Then all of a sudden great things start to happen, then again, then a third time and then ‘We have something here!’ Listen Now

The No. 88 Chevrolet Team of Dale Earnhardt Jr.

January 31, 2009

Whenever new members join the family that is the No. 88 Chevrolet team of Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Hendrick Motorsports, crew chief Tony Eury Jr. welcomes them with a stern warning.

Soaring expectations
Dale Earnhardt Jr. admits he was apprehensive going into last season. But this year, he says the team must perform when the stakes are high.

“You guys are going to get more attention, you’re going to get talked about more, when you do wrong you’re going to get that magnified. When you do good, that’s going to get magnified, too — but you’ve got to be able to take both, because you’re going to get both. It’s not going to be one or the other. Both of ‘em are coming, so just be prepared,” Eury said he tells the new recruits. Listen Now

2008 V8 STOCK CAR SEASON IN REVIEW

January 31, 2009

The V8 StockCar Road Racing Series’ 2008 season, its’ fifth anniversary, was an unqualified success story.  Despite a serious economic slowdown and sky high fuel prices,  V8 racers still found their way to track.  Two venues, VIR and Daytona experienced their largest, most talented fields ever.  All of the ten race weekends were well attended and with the best competition ever.

Winning in any V8 StockCar class got a whole lot tougher in 2008, taking nothing less than a professional effort to get the job done.  Former Grand Am Champion
Dave Machavern showed up to do battle in V8 GT-1 in his Tommy Riggins built C6 Corvette and quickly demonstrated he was going to be the man to beat. Listen Now
